Bao Longxing was rumored to be the descendant of the famous judge in the Song dynasty. He got his start in government through relative's donation to the state. Story has it that before judging a murder committed by the son of a high-level official, he appeared overwhelmed by a bribe of huge sum, then was accused of the corruption in court by the very same party that bribed him, forcing him to go into hiding in shame. After some introspection, he decided to go to the capital to file a wrongful imprisonment complaint on behalf of an incarcerated woman, but was forced to work in a brothel as a menial laborer in order to afford the journey. He had a chance encounter with the emperor there and after explaining the whole thing, he was appointed the judge of the case and finally brought the guilty party to justice.
